The College Studio Summer Program: Logo Design / Monograms

One of our Summer 2012 College Studio classes was based on logo design, graphic design and typography. The value of preliminary sketching was emphasized. The students were directed to work out ideas for designs based on their own name or initials. The goal was to brainstorm and come up with many ideas, not to come to any solid conclusions or finished designs. After a critique of the first round of designs, the student were then directed to work on ideas for designs using other students initials. One surprising outcome was that the students found it easier to come up with ideas for the their peers than for themselves.
