The College Studio Summer Program: Interpretation of Music

One of our Summer 2012 College Studio classes was based on using music as an inspiration for drawing. After a discussion about music and the visual arts, the students were directed to draw while listening to a playlist. Interpretation of the music was not to be a literal visual description of the lyrics, but a response to the rhythm, melody, syncopation and tone of the music. This is an important exercise in translating sound into color, mark making, and design.
